Episode Extras

Bit of an Odd Bird…

El Campo is a bird that migrates off the beaten path. Opting to winter inland rather than on the Gulf Coast, El Campo illuminates a group of whoopers that are pioneering new winter territories in more agricultural settings with a mix of rice-crawfish farms, corn, pasture, and waterfowl hunting areas that protect wetlands.

Inland comes with challenges through the winter… later in the season, a juvenile of this inland group hit a power line and died. Clint found them by chance, and the power company may now be putting up diverters.

Anytime Mike is with Clint, he marvels at the “Whooper Party Line” that leads them to the birds. Clint knows everyone in the area, everyone knows Clint, and all of them know the birds and where they are.

El Campo is identifiable by her Red-Yellow-Red marker, and is known by many of the Texas locals as a seasonal part of the neighborhood.
