In October 2019, a family of whooping cranes stopped on the Platte on their way back south for the winter. Two young were in tow: the new spring chick and lingering teenager from the year prior.

Presented with a rare free afternoon, Mike jetted out to the Crane Trust to spy on these birds, and observed some notable behavior including fishing, bathing, and solidifying family dynamics.
