Quivira Cottonwood
About Quivira Cottonwood
This camera is mounted on a sturdy branch of a fallen cottonwood tree in a mixed-grass prairie at Quivira National Wildlife Refuge. It captures a landscape view and seasonal changes of prairie in the foreground and expansive inland salt marsh in the background. The saline lakes on this 22,135-acre refuge serve as critical stopover areas for whooping cranes and myriad other migrating species along the Central Flyway in an otherwise cropland-dominated landscape.
