Aransas Salada
About Aransas Salada
This camera is mounted 15 feet up on a windmill tower next to a coastal prairie wetland. It is located roughly one half mile inland from San Antonio Bay in Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. Whooping cranes require freshwater drinking sources daily and will come inland to find them, especially during times of drought. Naturally occurring water in the wetland is supplemented by a solar well that pumps water into the wetland so it doesn’t go dry during the winter season. The wetland is also a haven for a diversity of other wildlife, including wading birds, deer, feral hogs, and a resident alligator.
