Salt Plains Deck
About Salt Plains Deck
This camera is located on a viewing platform above the inlet of Sand Creek that forms a shallow bay leading to the Great Salt Plains Reservoir. The camera captures a landscape view of the ever-changing weather patterns, fluctuating water levels, and seasonal pulses of bird migration in the Central Flyway, including sandhill cranes and a high number of whooping cranes. Surrounded by grasslands and row-crop agriculture, Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge is 32,080 acres and contains 12,000 acres of salt flats, the largest such expanse in the Great Plains. It is also a designated wetland of hemispheric importance for migratory shorebirds.
