Wood Buffalo Salt Plains
About Wood Buffalo Salt Plains
This camera was near a public viewing deck overlooking the massive salt plains and the Salt River. The camera captured the changes of the seasons in the boreal wilderness. Saltwater flowing out at the base of the escarpment has drawn humans and wildlife to the area for millennia. Wood Buffalo National Park is 17,275 square miles, making it the largest national park in Canada. Herds of wood bison, packs of wolves, and massive black bears move across these plains, countless birds species nest here, and whooping cranes from family groups to subadults can frequent this landscape from spring to fall. The camera was consumed by wildfire in late summer 2023.
